On a Sick Leave

I wasn't able to update much of my blogs the past two days because I was sick. I wasn't sure anymore what hit me - but my tummy ache was just so annoying I decided to take a break and allow myself to heal first before I resume regular programming.

Day 67

The previous day (Day 66 - Monday, 05 Dec 2011), I was able to successfully do my video workouts, but I had a difficult time finishing it. Since doing Hip Hop Abs required me to tighten my core as I do the workout, the walls of my tummy was just so tired and hurting. At that point, I was already fearing maybe I was having appendicitis because all throughout the workout my right side would hurt a lot. However, I quickly let go of the fear because I would only feel the pain when I exercise... during "normal" hours, I wouldn't feel any pain, though of course I could feel as if I was having indigestion.

I also couldn't understand why my tummy feels very acidic and empty. I would eat, but after that it felt as if I didn't eat at all. Today, I decided to just eat a lot because I felt as if the acid in my tummy was already eating my entire digestive system (haha, that is slightly exaggerated - the pain was bearable, it was just annoying).

Full list of food I ate today -
  • 7:57am - 1 serving Pancit Palabok (no fancy ingredients, just noodles, sauce, and a few slices of hard boiled eggs)
  • 10:24am - 10 pieces toasted bread (store bought, with margarine and sugar; each piece was about the size of 1/4 sliced loaf bread)
  • 6:44pm - 1/2 cup rice, 1/2 cup Sigarilyas Sarciado (recipe HERE), 1 slice of ripe papaya
Total Cups of Water: 17
Late in the afternoon, brother and I went to the market and I bought myself a pack of Yakult. One Facebook friend suggested I drink it because it might help with the digestion... I didn't see any reason why I wouldn't try it.

Nilagang Baka

Day 68

The Yakult and papaya did wonders today. No more constipation, but my tummy still felt weird. I wanted to go back to my exercises, but my whole upper tummy area wasn't feeling well (still). It's no longer aching; it just felt tired - like something heavy was pressing against it.

I ate -
  • 8:13am - 1/2 cup rice, 1/2 cup leftover Sigarilyas Sarciado
  • 1:36pm - 1 cup rice, 1 pack Lucky Me! instant pancit canton, 1 can Sardines in Tomato Sauce
  • 6:38pm - 1/2 cup rice, Beef Nilaga (70g beef, 4 chunks potatoes, some green beans and bok choy), 1 slice Goldilock's dulce de leche cake
Total Cups of Water: 13
Eating a lot (oh yes, a lot) for lunch able to stabilize my tummy. Come afternoon, I no longer feel hungry, but I still felt as if my tummy was acidic and it was still growling from time to time. Gas was my problem then - when my tummy aches subsided, I was always either burping or farting! Brother said I should be grateful about it, at least my body was letting go of bad air and it wasn't trapped inside my body.

After eating dinner, I took an Anticholinergic tablet, following my brother's suggestion.

Oreo Kitty

Oreo Kitty

As of this writing, I am feeling much, much better. My tummy problems never really caused an alarm because I was handling it well and it wasn't really, really, painful (and I have already experienced this kind of tummy ache before). I was so thankful that my buddy Pipoy was always there to check on me, but at one point my cat Oreo seemed to be jealous about it already.

The other night, while talking to Pipoy on the phone, I was so surprised when Oreo hopped onto my bed. This cat of mine is sweet, yes... but he wasn't the type that would lie next to anyone, but this night, he just did. He was comfortably cleaning himself, at times he would meow and take my attention away from Pipoy. Hmm... possessive kitty, eh?

This morning, he hopped onto my bed again and lied next to me. It just felt so nice - my cat being so close to me like that. For whatever reason - whether he wanted to comfort me or he wanted some comfort... or he just wanted something warm on a cold morning, having my dear cat near me just felt soooo good.

Sick leave is now over; time to get back on track. Eight days have passed since I last weighed, I am starting to fear how I will I do this month.

  1. Hey! Glad to read that you're feeling better. Don't be scared as to how much weight you'll lose this month. Just focus on the good things, like 5 to 8lbs. Don't push yourself too hard. I mean, yes, we need to be healthy, but there's no use if you get sick in the process. If you can't exercise, just make sure that you eat at least 6 small meals in a day.

  2. I blame it to the oatmeal, but I am feeling so much better now, and I am so excited to get back to my workouts. Actually, I will be very happy even if I lose 4lbs this month, but of course, anything higher than that will be much sweeter.
