Blood Splattered Nail Art

Hello guys!

It's the start of another week after a long weekend, and because I wasn't able to do a Halloween-themed nail art a week before the actual Halloween day, my nail art post will concentrate on that.

It was October last year when I started really liking nail polish. While vacationing in La Union in time for Undas (All Saints / All Souls Day), I spent my extra time reading a book or checking each and every nail polish blog I could find. Halloween is one celebration a lot of nail bloggers prepare for when it comes to nail art, and the Blood Splattered Nails was one of those easy nail art designs I hoped to try.

I wanted to try it since then - even bought myself a bottle of white and red nail polish, but small pharmacies and convenience stores in La Union only had the Caronia Nail Polish brand, and the very open space of our house, with wind coming in the big windows proved to be the biggest hurdle for creating the said nail art. This local brand tends to go thick and goopy easily, that I couldn't bring myself to do the first step. I gave up and told myself I would try come following year.

...and this year, I didn't forget to do the promise I told myself.

Klik Nail Polish | Candy Pink

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and I have seen many nail bloggers posting images of their pink nail polish / nail art. A few more days before the month ends, so let me share my pink nail polish as well.

I really love pink, though it is not my favorite color. I just love the girly, youthful vibe it exudes, and this shade of pink is just flattering. It's not very girly, yet it is not very mature as well.

Candy Pink by Klik Nail Polish has a thick consistency, but quite easy to apply. Although, one should go easy on the thickness of lacquer because thick formula tends to go goopy if applied in thick coats. As for my manicure, I used two medium coats, going with as less strokes as possible so the brush won't drag the nail polish and create bald spots. It dried fairly fast and was quite sturdy, so I didn't apply any top coat anymore, as I fear doing so would make the surface thicker than it already was.

This nail polish has a great opacity and pigmentation that one could go with one coat if desired. I once applied this on my mom's toenails and just went for one coat because she had to leave the house in a less than an hour and it needed to be dry before she wears her shoes.

Klik Nail Polish is now a trusted brand for me. Manufactured by Ming Mei Cosmetics, it is one of the cheapest nail polishes in the Philippine market, which retails for as low as 15 pesos, depending on where you're buying it. This company also manufactures another nail polish brand that I like - OMG Nail Colors, but if there's one thing I would suggest to the manufacturer of this nail polish, it would be to change their labels. The front label was just fine as I could tilt the bottle and show its sides when I take pictures of my mani, but the back cover needs a big change. They should include an ingredients list to ease concerns from its would be users, who are on the lookout for the big 3 ingredients they don't want to have in their nail polishes. OMG Nail Colors is big 3 free, but even I can't say the same for this brand because it has no ingredients list. In all fairness, I have used this brand for nearly one year and didn't experience any problems. I just hope they would do a label overhaul in time.

OMG Nail Colors | Happy Hour

My Monday was so busy that I wasn't able to blog, and because I will be out all day tomorrow, I really have to update the blogs so there won't be too much gap between the posts.

OMG Nail Polish | Happy Hour

For this week's Nail Files, I am sharing to you this super awesome dark nail polish by OMG (Oh My Golly) Nail Colors in Happy Hour shade.

I purchased this at the Landmark Trinoma and at first I thought it was black and almost didn't buy it because I told myself that I will only buy black nail polish if there is something unique about it because you know... regardless of its brand, black nail polish will always be black, no comparison to its shade (but I do know formulas and consistency varies). Upon close inspection, I realized this wasn't black but a very dark plum nail polish, so I bought it.

OMG Nail Polish | Happy Hour OMG Nail Polish | Happy Hour

My pictures didn't capture it, but there were flecks in this nail polish - it wasn't the typical solid creme nail polish. It reminds me of Rain by Colortrends shade called Nirvana, but OMG Nail Colors had a better formula than Rain. It still had the stiff brush bristles, but I didn't have too much problems applying this one.

On my nails are 1 very thin coat + 2 medium coats of Happy Hour, without top coat. As with the other nail polishes I've tried from this brand, it dried very quick and was very sturdy.

I find it quite awesome to wear nail polish that are so dark it looks black from afar when it really wasn't black. I have had a few African Plum shade nail polishes in my stash, and this had the best formula of all. This was something I would restock once I emptied the bottle.

What a great news to wake up to! #winner

Oh by the way, lemme just share a super duper wonderful news that I received this morning - I won in China Glaze's Ghoulish Giveaway via Instagram featuring their Monster's Ball collection! This was the first time that I won in a Nail Polish giveaway, and I was so happy! I wanted to really win this one, especially that I didn't win the Picture Polish giveaway, but with thousands that joined, I almost didn't expect that I'd win. When I woke up this morning, I just saw there was a notification from Instagram and there was it...a tagged post from China Glaze informing that I was one of the 15 winners. Of course, I immediately e-mailed them to inform about my details. Yeee!!!!

What's Up With Me?

I was quite surprised when I realized that it was nearly a month ago when I last updated this blog. Well, currently I am in the process of adjustment - adjusting to brother leaving, adjusting to mom being here at home, adjusting to my sister's ever changing work shift. Almost all house chores became my responsibility now that brother is no longer here to share the load, and balancing everything was a little too difficult for me to handle and it resulted in a very mild depression. At the moment I could say that I have found the light at the end of the tunnel - I have learned to manage my time well, so I guess it is safe to say that I can now start blogging again.

The past month brought me so much joy despite the big adjustment.

I won a new phablet - the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 through a food photography contest hosted by Nom Nom Club. There were a lot of bloggers who hosted this giveaway (nearly 10, in my knowledge) and I joined in three. Nom Nom Club was the first one to announce a winner, and I was over the top happy to win. It was a very sweet victory because the very first task to do was to share the giveaway on Facebook tagging four friends, and tagging two of my blogger friends got them to learn about the giveaway and in the end, they were runner ups on the contest. These two friends of mine are really good in taking food pictures, so I was really happy that I got to win.

All Mine Us Three Girls
Boracay I Heart Boracay
3:00am at Kalibo Airport

Last weekend of August, us three girls traveled to Boracay to use the accommodation GCs my sister and I won when we attended the Enjoy Philippines Mid-Year Party. It was my sister's first time to ride the plane, and I was sad for her because it wasn't really that much of  a pleasant experience because our flight was delayed. From 2:30pm, we left Manila at 7:30pm, and it was already past 11pm when we reached Boracay (we took a flight going to Kalibo, which is still two hours away from Boracay by bus). Supposedly, mom was to sleep with me at Alta Vista de Boracay, but knowing that I still had to take the van going to the resort, she decided to stay with sister at The Tides Boracay.

It wasn't really a good time to visit Boracay because of endless rains the country was experiencing at that time. The beautiful beach wasn't as beautiful that time, and it was difficult to enjoy when the rain was always pouring. Still, I was glad that my mom and sister loved the experience and were very much open to travel back there for we weren't able to do the things we wanted to do because of the rains.

No Borders Cuisine Snacks with Sister
SM Mall of Asia Max's Meal

Two weekends ago, I was happy to be back inside The Maya Kitchen, attending another food class... this time with my sister. I also got to share some snacks with her before I went to SM Mall of Asia to attend the Grand Inaanak Day at the SMX Convention Center hosted by Max's Chicken.

At the event, I got to spend time with my dear blogger friend Vance, who just lost 20lbs (give or take) using a diet + body toning program. I am happy for her to have found something that would work for her, and she just inspired me to work harder on my own fitness program. Well, hers was a very effective program, but I don't have the money to enroll myself in it, so I will just stick to my own programs.

Despite the many lapses in my weight loss journey, I am happy to say that I was able to maintain my weight. No changes... I still am at 214lbs., but I am looking forward to losing weight and target 190lbs. by the end of the year.

Holiday with K, Week 3

Last post about the holiday recap.

Trolley Ride

Day 15, 29 June 2013
With a typhoon entering the country, K and I couldn't make specific plans. We both wanted to travel to Bataan and I want us to visit the house (turned museum) of Emilio Aguinaldo in Cavite, but because both of us weren't sure when the rain would fall, we decided to just cancel all plans. The day didn't go to waste, though... because today we went to do something K wanted to do since his last visit - ride the PNR train. It would be our first time to ride the PNR train, and even if the train was packed with people, it was a fun ride. As a side trip, we took the trolley from one station to another - something I wanted him to experience. The rain poured about 10 minutes before reaching the station, so as soon as we arrived, we quickly hailed a taxi so we could eat lunch. One sad note, though... we received a text message from Sun Cruises saying our Corregidor trip scheduled the next day will be cancelled because of the typhoon. Oh man!

National Museum

Day 16, 30 June 2013
Both of us got up late because we didn't know what else to do for this day, with our Corregidor trip cancelled. I still wanted us to go to Cavite, but before I got to tell him my suggestion, he told me he was browsing thru Trip Advisor, and one of his peers there suggested we go to the National Museum, and that's where we went. After roaming around, we went to Robinson's Manila to watch a little bit of badminton, then we ate dinner at Tempura before walking back home (to the hotel).

Baluarte de San Diego

Day 17, 01 July 2013
This has been K's fourth visit to the Philippines, and in all visits, he has checked several places in Manila City, so for today, I just didn't know where else to take him. Good thing I remembered the Baluarte de San Diego, and even if it was just a short visit, I think it had been good. After this, we walked towards Ristorante delle Mitre to eat late lunch then walked towards Rizal Park just to unwind. However, it rained again, making us go home early again.

Heart Shaped Cloud

Day 18, 02 July 2013
Another late waking up time for us, and I thought we would just stay indoors because we had to check out by lunch time. By 10am, he asked if we could walk towards the boulevard, and there we just had a heart to heart talk. We poured our concerns - mainly asking for apologies for each of our shortcomings - but of course, despite the low points of this holiday, it had been wonderful. At our best, I think we cared for each other and I guess that mattered most.

After eating lunch, we parted ways. He went straight to the airport, while I went straight home. I was already home when he sent me a text message saying he was already going to the immigration office, meaning he won't be able to message me after that one. After 24 or so hours, I received an e-mail from him saying he got home safe.

I still don't know if he would have the chance to travel back to the Philippines, but of course part of me is hoping for that. K had been one of the best people I have met, and should he travel back here, I'd make sure we visit the places we weren't able to.
